  第二节:读后续写( 25分)

  (略)

  听力原文:

  (Text 1)

W: It's getting late and the sea looks rough. We'd better head home. It may take hours for us to

  go against the winds.

M: That's all right because if it gets dark, the harbour is well-lit.

  (Text 2)

W: Ann worked as a secretary after her graduation. Then she took up teaching, then painting.

After that she became a secretary again.

  M: She's really experienced a lot!

  (Text 3)

W: Oh look, aren't they sweet? Can you see those two playing with a ball?

M: I wouldn't call lions sweet and I'm glad I'm not that ball. Don't you think they are scary?

W: I don't think so. They are so lovely.

  (Text 4)

M: I was expecting another hot, foggy day.

W: But the wind is cooling things off, isn't it?

  (Text 5)

W:Would you like to go to the theater with me?

M: I'd love to but my uncle is coming to visit us and I've arranged a party for him. He'll celebrate

  his 50th birthday.

  (Text 6)

M: It seems that Cathy has been very upset recently. Was it because she was not able to win any

  prize in the speech contest?

W: I don't think so. The other day, she received a letter from home. After she read it, she cried.

M: Shall we go and ask her about it?

W: I doubt if she will tell us. I think we could make a phone call to her family and see what has

  happened.

  M: OK.

  (Text 7)

W: You had a talk with the teacher. So how did it go then?

M:Well, I didn't say what I wanted immediately. First we talked about the difficulty of the course

and how much pressure it puts on students and so on. I mean last month I had to ask for more

time on both my papers. www.2abc8.com

W: Mmm. I did too. And?

M: I finally got to the point saying I'd lost my part-time job and had money problems. She

mentioned that the school offered money to those having difficulty with the costs. So I got an

application form to fill in and if they accept that, it'll cover the fees for the next six months.

  W: Great.

  (Text 8)

M: Pilar, where do you come from?

  W: South Korea.

M: In your country do people move often?

W:Well, sometimes people go off to a university and then don't come back, or sometimes people

move because of work. But, in general, in my country people do not move often. We are part of a

large family that stays together I came to America because of my husband's work, but when I go

back to my country, I will go back to my town, my family, my past.

M: How are things different in America?

W: Here, if someone comes from a family that has problems, they leave that family behind and

go off and make a new life. There are many opportunities here that we do not have, and people

here follow those opportunities. In America, a poor person from a family that other people look

down on can become a rich and respected person. In my country, that sometimes happens, but it

is more difficult for the average person. What about things in England?

  M: Well...

  (Text 9)

  W:What's your favourite sport?

M: I like many sports but I think I like football best, because I can play in a team.

W: Then you must like watching Football Night.

M: Yes. I love all football programmes. I never miss a single game on TV.

W: To tell you the truth, I have no idea why people are so crazy about football.

M: I think what people enjoy most is seeing how the members of a team work. When you watch

a game, it's fun to support a particular team or player. You really want them to win. It makes the

  game more exciting.

W: I don’t like it. It sounds to me a bit like watching a battle. Jogging is quiet and relaxing. Do

  you like it?

M: No, I seldom jog. I prefer cycling to jogging. I enjoy seeing the countryside. Besides it's

  faster.

W: I've heard that you are good at swimming.

M: Ah yes. Swimming is my second favourite. It gives me a chance to have fun with my friends,

  especially in summer.

  (Text 10)

M: Thanks for calling our competition hotline. We have all the information you need to enter this

exciting painting competition. The most important date for you to remember is the one you have

to send in your paintings by— that’s the thirty-first of August. We need them all in by that date

because the winning paintings will be in a show held from October 15th to November 1st at the

  School of Arts.

The next important bit of information is the topic for the competition. Last year's topic of Cities

was very successful. This year we'd like to see paintings showing your ideas on the subject of

The Future. Think about your world, your family and home —how might it look one hundred

  years from now?

Unfortunately, we can't return your paintings but to show that you've entered, all of you will

receive a certificate. It'll look great on your bedroom wall next to your posters and photos.

We welcome entries from school groups, so make sure you tell your teacher about the

competition. Schools can win a special course with Barry Wells. He's an artist from Australia,

who's produced pictures for many children's story books sold here in England. He'll be doing

classes in how to draw cartoons.

  Good luck and happy painting!
