  Dear Jack,

I am writing to ask you for some guidance on my scheduled tour to England this summer holiday. Since this is my first trip abroad, I am really at a loss about my tour plan.

To start with, would you please recommend some can,t-be-missed attractions, which are well-reviewed ones? Besides, it is a great help if you are kind enough to share with me what preparations I am supposed to make for my trip. Above all, during my journey in England, what details I ought to keep in mind so that my trip will be safe, smooth and sweet?

Looking forward to your timely reply. Thank you!

  Yours,

  Lihua

  第二节:读后续写(25分)

“Get ready to run, William, ” she said, keeping an eye on the motionless snake. Rebecca opened the dripping petticoat (wet through with water) as much as she could. Her hands shook as she leaned over the bank. With one swift movement, she dropped the heavy garment on top of the snake. “Now!” she shouted to William as the snake began to move under the petticoat. William jumped over the covered snake and ran halfway back to the woods before he stopped and turned around. Rebecca was right behind him.

“Are you OK? ” he asked, breathing heavily. Rebecca nodded. She was glad they managed to escape. They both took a minute to catch their breath and calmed themselves down. Rebecca checked to make sure that the seedlings were still safe. Then William reached over and gave Rebecca a grateful hug. “Thanks, sister. I’d have done the same for you back there.” Rebecca managed a grin. “You couldn’t have.” she said, “You don’t wear petticoats!” Laughing, they raced back to the woods.

  (Text 1)

M: Good morning. My name is James Turner. I have a meeting with Wayne Brown.

W: Oh, yes, Mr. Turner. Mr. Brown is expecting you. I’ll give him a phone to tell you’re here. (Text 2)

M: Is the party still on the eleventh?

W: That gives us too little time to prepare for it. And the place’s booked up on the twenty-seventh.

So I decide to change it to the date of the twenty-first at last.

  (Text3)

W: Have you got a favorite sport?

M: My favorite sport is swimming. I have swimming classes at school and I often go to the swimming pool with my father. It’s one of my friends who taught me how to swim.

  (Text 4)

W: Do you have any trouble being a photographer?

M: Well, no. It’s fun because I’m doing something creative and challenging.

W: But I think traveling a lot may make you tired.

  (Text5)

W: How many questions did you have to answer in your exam last week?

M: Six. Five grammar questions and one piece of writing.

W: Did you write a story or a letter?

M: I chose the story, but it was very hard.

  第二节

  (Text6)

W: Well, I did enjoy that. How about you?

M: It was OK, I suppose. I always like films with Sally Rider in them. She may not be beautiful but she can act quite well. Those special effects were wonderful, weren’t they? I felt as if some of those space rockets were coming out into the audience and you could almost touch that rainbow, couldn’t you?

W: Yeah—though the story was silly, wasn’t it?

M: You can say that again! I guess the special effects were put in to make you forget what it was all about.

  (Text7)

M: So did you buy anything at the market?

W: Yes. I bought this beautiful bag. Adam nearly bought a watch but he saw a CD store.

M: So he spent his money there? from www.2abc8.com

W: Yeah. He got one he’d wanted for a long time. In fact, Tim did buy a watch and it’s already stopped working.

  M: Poor Tim!

W: And Ryan found a book he wanted to buy, but it was too expensive, so he got lots of postcards. And he thought he would like his father to buy it for him. Louis was looking for chocolates for his mum, but it was very hot so he got a cake instead.

  (Text8)

W: Happy birthday, Steve. Did you get lots of presents?

M: Yes, I did. Mary gave me this jacket.

W: Oh, good. Did Harry buy you anything?

M: Something very expensive, a Japanese camera.

W: Oh, you are lucky! And that blue sweater you’re wearing, that’s new.

M: Yes, Linda gave it to me. And Thomas knows I love travel films, so he bought me a video about Africa.

W: What about Amy? I saw her looking at some big boxes of chocolates.

M: Oh, I love chocolates but she gave me a pen and I’ve already got lots of these.

W: Anything else? I think James gave you a book.

M: Well, not this year. He bought me some lovely socks.

W: That was clever of him!

  (Text9)

  W: Hello, Max. What’s up?

M: The town newspaper’s got a great competition for us to enter.

W: What do we have to do?

M: Write a story. The competition will close at the end of February, so we’ve got January to think about it and four weeks to write. They’ll choose the winning stories in March.

W: Are the prizes any good?

M: The top prize is a computer. There’re two other prizes — a phone and a camera. I’d like to come first.

W: Me, too. Who will choose the winners?

M: They asked a famous writer but he was too busy. A reporter from the newspaper will decide which stories win, and a footballer is going to come and give the prizes.

W: And how do we send the stories?

M: You need to get a form from the Internet, put it with your story and post it. You can’t take the story to their office, unfortunately.

  W: OK. Let’s do it.

  (Text 10)

W: Mr. Zapp, you have been on the road for over ten years. Have you ever had any problems?

M: Yes, we’ve had some. The car has stopped working a few times. But there is always someone who can fix it.

W: Have you ever stayed in a hotel?

M: No. Our car is our home, our school, our kitchen and our transport!

W: How fast can the car go?

M: We have never driven faster than 55 kilometers per hour. That’s why were still going.

W: So, the children have never been to school.

M: No, but we give them lessons every day, and they learn from the Internet. They’ve also learned a lot about the world around them.

W: What kind of things have they learned?

M: They’ve seen kangaroos and bears in the wild and they’ve learned words in many languages.

W: Have you ever been to Vietnam?

M: No, we haven’t. We’ve been to Japan. And we’re heading for South Korea, but not Vietnam.

W: Have you ever thought, “Why are we doing this?”

M: No, I haven’t. I know why we are doing this, because this is our dream.
