If you've ever driven by a car dealership(汽车销售代理商)and seen the rows and rows of brand new cars, you’ ve probably wondered what happens to the ones that never get sold. Where do they all go when it comes in time to make room for the newest models?

Car dealerships buy new cars from carmakers and sell them at a higher price to make a profit. Therefore, once the dealership buys those cars, they belong to them. They can't just send the unsold ones back to the carmakers at the end of the year.

There are a few options for the dealership when their cars don't sell. They can ship the unsold cars to a different market where the specific model might be in demand. “ For example,a city Toyota dealer with a Toyota pickup may trade it with a small town Toyota dealer who needs it,” George Iny,president of Automobile Protection Association told The Globe and Mail.

The cars can also be sold at auction(拍卖),but that loses some of the sale to an auction house, which means the dealership would lose a lot of money since the car would already be discounted.

The final option is to price the cars to sell. Something to keep in mind when buying a car is that carmakers and dealerships want to get rid of inventory (存货清单)so older cars aren't competing with newer models. Iny suggests purchasing a car in the fall because that's when dealerships push to get last year’s cars sold.

So,all of the unsold cars can actually benefit the buyer, but before you go to purchase a new set of wheels, make sure you know how to outsmart a car salesman.

  28. What might be the best title of the text?

  A. What happens to all of the unsold cars? B. When can we buy our favorite cars?

  C. How dealerships make money? D. How dealerships sell out all car?

  29. What can we know about the unsold cars?

  A. They will be returned to the manufacturer immediately.

  B. They can be shipped to different markets in demand.

  C. They can be sold at auction at a very low price.

  D. They may be sold at a higher price later in the year.

  30. Why do carmarkers and dealerships want to get rid of inventory?

  A. They want to make room for newer models coming soon.

  B. They just want to make money as quickly as possible.

  C. They don’t want to compete with other dealerships.

  D. The competition at the car market will become tougher.

  31. What does the author mean in the last paragraph?

  A. Car salesmen are all very clever than buyers.

  B. When buying wheels, you should be very smart.

  C. Unsold cars will be beneficial to carmakers.

  D. Buyers will actually benefit from unsold cars.

  D

There was a time when red meat was a luxury (奢侈品)for ordinary Americans,or was at least something special: cooking a roast for Sunday dinner, ordering a steak at a restaurant. Not anymore. Meat consumption has more than doubled in the United States in the last 50 years.

Now a new study of more than 500,000 Americans has provided the best evidence yet that our love for red meat has a bad effect on our health and limits our life span (寿命).The study found that, other things being equal, the men and women who consumed the most red and processed meat were likely to die sooner, especially from one of our two leading killers, heart disease and cancer, than people who consumed much smaller amounts of these foods.

The new findings suggest that over the course of a decade, the deaths of one million men and perhaps half a million women could be prevented just by eating less red and processed meat.

To prevent deaths related to red and processed meat, people should eat a hamburger only once or twice a week instead of every day,a small steak once a week instead of every other day,and a hot dog every month and a half instead of once a week. In place of red meat, non - vegetarians might consider poultry (家禽)and fish. In the study, the largest consumers of “white” meat from poultry and fish which contain less fat had a slight survival advantage. Similarly, those who ate the most fruit and vegetables also tended to live longer.

Anyone who worries about global environment has yet another reason to consume less red meat. A reduced dependence on red meat for food could help to save the planet from the damaging effects of environmental pollution ,global warming and the decrease of fresh water.

  32. What does the new study find?

  A. Red meat was a luxury in America in the past.

  B. Our love for red meat may reduce our life span.

  C. People will die earlier if they eat red meat.

  D. Heart disease and cancer are two leading killers.

  33. Which of the following is healthier?

  A. Eating a hamburger every day. B. Eating a small steak every day.

  C. Never eating red meat, poultry and fish. D. Eating fruit and vegetables every day.

  34. How does eating less meat influence the environment?

  A. It may help reduce global warming. B. It can solve the environment problem.

  C. It may decrease the supply of fresh water. D. It helps increase wild animals in the wild.

  35. What can we know from the text?

  A. Americans eat more red meat than before.

  B. Americans live longer by eating less red meat than before.

  C. Eating less red meat is healthier and environmental-friendly.

  D. Eating less red meat can help people to live longer.
